The role of GECS

GECs are important bodies within PCS who, alongside our national executive committee, are responsible for implementing conference policy and negotiating with employers. The decisions made by the NEC and group executives directly affect PCS members.

The policies of groups are decided at their group conferences, which are held annually just before the main annual delegate conference. The group is managed by a GEC, which is also elected annually by all the ordinary members in that group.

The GEC is responsible for protecting and promoting the interests of members, organising branches, recruiting and retaining members, and organising campaigns specific to the group. The GEC may also lead on negotiations with employers.
