If you want to become more active in your workplace or branch get in touch with your workplace or branch representatives. You can also contact your regional organiser to find out ways in which you can get involved in the union.

Getting active in the union does not mean you have to be a representative.

If you are interested in the work of your branch, there are tasks you could take on that don't involve being a rep in the more formal sense but that will involve you in the work of the union. For example:

• distributing union circulars in your workplace
• encouraging non-members to join
• keeping the union noticeboard up-to-date
• informing members about union policies and campaigns
• helping to keep your local branch website up-to-date
• getting involved with the young members' forum

None of these jobs are complicated and they don't take up a huge amount of time. Ask your local representatives.

There are plenty of opportunities to observe at meetings and conferences.

All branches, groups and conferences have observer seats so if you do want to find out more about what goes on, why not ask if you can attend?
