These roles have now been filled by PCS volunteers. All applicants were subject to recruitment checks which included both taking up references and seeking branch endorsements. They were also required to apply for authorisation from the Financial Services Authority (FSA) to become approved persons. This process has now been concluded and all officers are currently involved with the development process of PCS Credit Union as well as undergoing ongoing specialist training.
Further recruitment will be undertaken for additional members of the Board of Directors in the credit union’s 1st year of operation. An important part of this role is Regional Co-ordination e.g. providing support to Local Co-ordinators and co-ordination of promotional work, so it is important all areas of the country are represented. It is therefore possible that targeted recruitment may take place where there are specific areas that have been identified.
PCS Credit Union is setting up a network of volunteers across the country. Local Co-ordinators provide face to face contact with members and potential members. They will answer queries and promote the credit union wherever possible.
Negotiations have been taking place with the Cabinet Office for some time to seek paid time off for volunteers in the Civil Service. So far these have been positively received but no formal agreement has been reached to date. To further progress this facility, Annette Griffiths and Chris Baugh, AGS of PCS TU met with Chris Evans MP in his capacity as Treasurer of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Credit Unions in June 2011. Following this meeting, Chris Evans MP wrote to Rt Hon Francis Maude MP, in his capacity as Cabinet Office Minister. We will provide you with an update as further progress is made.
Once a facility time framework is established in the Civil Service, we will also approach Commercial Sector employers with the same requests. This is in anticipation that any agreement made with the Cabinet Office will influence the outcomes with other kindred Commercial Sector employers.
Please contact the project office if you need more information to decide to get involved.
