In recent years PCS members have increasingly seen their jobs privatised or outsourced. Too often this has led to a decline in their terms and conditions and even the loss of their job, as private companies put savings over quality public services.
PCS are one of 13 trade unions that represent members who deliver public services signed up to the Public Services Not Private Profit campaign. The campaign was launched in 2006 with a rally and mass lobby of parliament attended by over 2,000 campaigners. There have since been packed local meetings across the country with speakers including trade union leaders and politicians.
