Luton, Saturday 5 May

Anti fascists outnumber the EDL in Luton

A diverse and joyous crowd of people from all backgrounds and cultures came together in the We Are Luton demo against the racist and fascist English Defence League (EDL) on Saturday 5 May.

The poorly attended EDL march was a supposed celebration of their 3 year existence, but it soon (and rather predictably) descended into drunken thuggery as EDL members threw fireworks and bottles at the police.

The PCS Eastern Regional banner was on display at the We Are Luton demo, as PCS activists, Luton locals and up to 2000 people mobilised in support with UAF, local Labour MPs Kelvin Hopkins and Gavin Shuker and East of England MEP, Richard Howitt.

PCS understands EDL marches are being planned in Bristol and Waltham Forest. Details will be posted here as they come in.
