TUC 2010

Challenging government cuts, protecting the welfare state and campaigning for a fairer tax system are just some of the issues PCS delegates will speak out about at this year’s TUC congress, held in Manchester 13-16 September.

Congress represents over six million trade union members. The annual event decides the direction of the TUC’s campaigning over the coming year and is an opportunity for demonstrations of solidarity across the union movement.

PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka said: “The TUC allows us to show unity with public sector workers across the union movement against government cuts. Cuts to welfare entitlements and public services will affect the most vulnerable in society and undermine the fabric of the welfare state.

“There is an alternative. These alternative programmes include: protecting and creating jobs to secure the economic recovery, taxing the banks, big business and the super-rich, with a crackdown on tax evasion and avoidance.
