Capita

PCS represents almost 600 members in Capita. Our members provide valuable public services in the Criminal Records Bureau and in the Department for Work and Pensions Filestores.

Our members also work to support the Teachers Pensions Agency and the Civil Service Recruitment and Assessment Service.

Our branches are among the fastest growing in PCS and our members work in several towns across England including Basingstoke, Darlington, Heywood, Liverpool and Nelson.

While a good number of our members are ex-civil servants, the majority are Capita direct hires demonstrating the relevance and importance of trade union membership to today's workers.

The Capita group brings together representatives from our branches so that we can consider those issues that apply across the company and co-ordinate our activities. The group makes sure PCS's relevant national policies such as pay are applied in Capita and also feeds back issues to the union's headquarters and national executive.

The group has particular responsibility for membership recruitment and making sure our representatives are trained and have the resources they need to do their job.

PCS is working hard to eliminate unfair differences in pay and terms and conditions so that all members have access to good working conditions. PCS holds regular meetings with Capita at both local and national level in order to progress this agenda.

Capita group president John Campbell says “PCS provides vital support and advice to our members and I would strongly advise anyone in our areas to become a PCS member.

We have a strong body of local representatives and they all work hard to make sure that their members interests are promoted and protected. Whatever the issue there is always someone at PCS that can help whether locally or from our HQ and regional centres.”

We are always looking out for new activists. If you are interested in becoming a representative, have particular interests or want to know how to be involved in the union please telephone Mark Pain, Capita group organiser on 01282 663819.
