Messages of support for HP Enterprise Services dispute

"On behalf of Barnet Trades Union Council and the PCS Branch of the Office of the Pulic Guardian, we send a message of solid support for your industrial action. May you all succeed".

Austin Harney, Secretary of Barnet Trades Union Council

"We would like to offer our ongoing support in your dispute with HP. What's happening there is very worrying; we have ongoing problems of our own - which unfortunately have been very similar to yours, unfortunately IT companies seem to be using the same 'how to annoy your workforce' handbook - although of course yours are on a much bigger scale. Good luck with your dispute"

Ceri Reeves Branch Secretary, On behalf of PCS Fujitsu Swansea

"I am writing this on 24th March, from my home PC as I work for the MoD and therefore am on strike today.

I would just like to say how much I admire HP staff striking; it is never an easy decision. This is not like the 80s, it is decent working people fed up with being manipulated.

I am 100% behind HP staff, and hopefully the General Election result will bring about a willingness from the new Government (whatever form it takes) and business generally to engage properly with employees"

Best wishes

Victoria Priestley
PCS Member, MoD Abbey Wood Branch

"On behalf of members in the Revenue and Customs group, the president and group secretary we wish to send a message of support to PCS members working for HP Enterprises Services who are taking further strike action on 29 and 30 March and 6 and 7 April.

We recognise the members’ struggle to establish collective bargaining rights with the employer, and applaud them for their commitment to seek fair pay and job security for all, as demonstrated by the seven days of industrial action already taken since 22 January.

Our best wishes are conveyed to HP members for a successful and speedy outcome to the dispute"

Pete Lockhart
Dave Bean

"On behalf of the north west regional committee and 47,000 civil service members in the region, please accept my best wishes and good luck in your important dispute at HP Enterprise Services.

Your campaign very neatly demonstrates the opportunism of the rich and powerful in using the economic crisis as cover for attacking jobs, pay and other terms and conditions. You and your members should be proud of the courage you have so far displayed, and which will continue to be required, in standing up for those who did not benefit from the boom and therefore should not pay for the bust.

In the midst of the most intensive civil service campaign of industrial action in a generation, you should be assured that commercial sector struggles will not be overlooked"
In solidarity,

Peter Middleman
NW Regional Secretary

"The PCS Home Office group pledges its solidarity to the Hewlett Packard Workers in their fight for fair pay; job security and collective bargaining. "Please accept our message of solidarity and support from the Leeds and District Revenue and Customs Branch. We wish you every success in your struggle for fair pay, job security and your just rights for collective representation for all workers at Hewlett Packard.

"We are aware that a lot of ex-Inland Revenue members may have joined EDS in the past and that PCS representatives in the commercial sector have not only defended ex-civil servants terms and conditions valiantly but also to their immense credit showed members who have always worked in the private sector the benefits of PCS and trade union membership.

"We know you are on the front line of trade unionism in the extremely difficult situation of dealing with an aggressive private sector company. Netherless we encourage you to stand up for trade union principles and to show your membership that acting collectively can improve their working lives. Solidarity and good luck."

Mark Chisman
Branch Secretary of the Leeds and District HMRC Branch

"I know the decision to go out on strike isn't taken lightly - after all if you could afford to lose seven days pay in the space of three months you wouldn't need to take this action. It is disgusting what HP are trying to do to you and I hope you get a fair outcome.

Good luck and know that there are lots of people supporting you!"

Rachael Garner
Fiscal Officer

"I'm a software developer working in Manchester and a Unite union workplace rep. I just wanted to send you a letter of support for your dispute over pay, job security and bargaining rights.

"The government is wrong to attack staff so it's great that PCS members are prepared to take action to defend staff. We've just been through a dispute with our company, which included 10 days' strike action, and won significant gains on jobs, pay and pensions. Members sticking together and taking a stand can win against employers."

Michael Thomas
Unite workplace rep and membership admin
Fujitsu

"On behalf of the Balfour Beatty Branch I would just like to express my support for your struggle to improve the conditions for members working in HP.

Many of the issues that you are confronting are similar to those that we are facing in Balfour Beatty. However we are very lucky in having collective bargaining for the vast majority of staff. This agreement makes all the difference to your ability to influence management.

I hope to learn more of your exploits at the next CSA meeting but in the meantime...Give 'em hell."

Stuart Frankland
Shadow Chair
Balfour Beatty workplace branch

Madhu Shah

Zita Holbourne
PCS BIS group deputy president

I am writing to you on behalf of the PCS Department of Transport Group Executive Committee. Please accept our full support and best wishes in your current dispute regarding fair pay and job security. It is never easy to have to strike but sometimes it is necessary. As you know our membership are also in a dispute regarding the Civil Service Compensation Scheme. We are all seeing greedy employers trying to cut back on our pay, terms, and conditions and carrying on as if it is fine to allow those who have created the financial crisis to keep their noses in the trough. We wish you every success, let us know if we can do anything for you, and keep up the fight.

Paul Williams PCS DfT Group President

Dear HP colleagues in strike, we express our full solidarity with your strike against the actions and intentions of HP, which lead to job losses and wage reduction and this despite the fact that you (and all other HP employees) helped HP with your hard work to increase revenue and profit.

Therefore we strongly support your demand: "The company need to start valuing staff and recognise the crucial part they play in its success by giving guarantees on job security and a fair pay rise."

HP European Works Council

"Brothers and Sisters, on behalf of my branch PCS DWP Liverpool, I offer our full support in your struggle. I understand some progress has been made in talks and wish you every success in achieving an acceptable settlement".

Steve Bramhill DWP Branch Secretary

Following our branch executive committee meeting yesterday, where we discussed the dispute as outlined in the General Secreterary's circular to all branches, the BEC have asked me to send a message of support to HP PCS members. We think that it is disgraceful that companies like HP are using the economic downturn to screw more and more out of workers to increase their profits. Please pass on our best wishes of solidarity and we hope that you win a successful outcome to your dispute. If there is anything practical we can do to help please let me know.

In solidarity,

Charlie McDonald DWP
