ONS role discrepancies

Your PCS representatives had a conference call with Fujitsu on the 17 June to receive an update on the outstanding ONS role mapping exercise.

This issue arose when ONS originally transferred to Fujitsu and our some of our Engineering Services members were placed in the TSS2 role code rather than being subject to a proper mapping exercise.

At the conference we were informed that a review of all Engineering Services members had been undertaken resulting in up to 30% of TSS2 staff being moved to the TSS3 role code.

PCS requested and it was agreed that we would be provided with the following information by the 25 June 2010:

  • Details of the procedure used for the review
  • The number of staff that will be moved to the TSS3 role code
  • Details of the appeal procedure for those wishing to appeal against their decision.

Those members that are due to move to the TSS3 role code as a result of the review will be entitled to any relevant back dated pay awards.

Fujitsu confirmed that they will undertake work to ascertain the reason for the original mapping discrepancy of each individual i.e. due to being placed in the incorrect role code post transfer OR due to a change in duties over time. This will allow for any backdated pay awards due to be calculated correctly.

Once we are aware of the appeal process, PCS will provide support to any member who has grounds to appeal their mapping decision.

The final resolution of this matter will be welcome news to our members working in ONS, Engineering Services. Whilst we accept this process has taken far too long to resolve, there is no doubt it would have taken a lot longer without PCS’s involvement.

This is a clear example of the benefits of being a PCS member. On your own you have very little power to influence decisions made by management. Uniting with your colleagues in the union means you can make a difference.

Please speak to your colleagues that are not yet members of our union and encourage them to join.
