Learning at work day events

This is a particularly exciting time of year for learning reps as they start to look forward to holding learning at work day events this year.

PCS union learning reps can obtain funding through their regional tuc via your regional learning organiser.

All regions particularly welcome applications from branches who have not held events before so if you have never held one don’t be put off!

Your regional learning organiser can help you submit applications, give you suggestions on things you might like to do and even come out and help run the Learning At Work Day itself.

Learning at Work Day takes place in May in England as part of Adult Learning Week but you can hold a learning at work day event at any time.

However you should ensure that your bid for funding has been submitted to your regional tuc via your PCS regional learning organiser in good time. You can access an application form, funding criteria and the submission date for a bid in your region on the Unionlearn website for your region

You can also find regional tuc learning contact details on these pages if you wish to speak to your tuc region directly about learning at work day in your area.

Branches looking to hold a learning at work day event should be considering who will make up your learning at work day planning group and should be:

• liaising with members about activities they would like to do
• linking up with local providers who can run sessions on the day
• negotiating with your local managers about holding an event

Regional Learning Organisers can advise you on how to do this and are also a good contact point for finding out what other branches and union learning reps are doing in your area.

If you work on a co-located site perhaps your branches could even work together to put on an event?

PCS will be producing materials for learning at work day events in March and you may also find some of the campaign for learning materials helpful such as their learning at work day action plan.
