The BEC met today to discuss the union’s response to the announcement yesterday that GSS want to end HRSC work being carried on the Glasgow site and the decision made to relocate administration and advisory services to Durham.
This decision is a direct consequence of the SIS “carve out”, GSS Operational Services carried out a review of its current operating model which focused upon the continued commercial viability of maintaining two separate HR organisations to support HR Admin and Payroll respectively.
The decision to relocate is a body blow to those members in the account who have now been placed at risk of redundancy on 1st October 2010. This is a huge insult to our members given the years of loyal service and worked hard to deliver year on year productivity increases, the highest quality standards of service and the flexibility to react quickly to changes in the clients requirements.
Despite the fact that their expertise and commitment has delivered huge savings, adding to the profitability of the wider Siemens group, they are prepared to put at risk of redundancy 31 excellent workers with all that means for the workforce and their families who depend on their incomes.
PCS members can be assured that your union is pressing for a firm commitment from Siemens that will deliver suitable outcomes for all concerned. We are currently in an extended period of consultation and can report that our first meeting to discuss the at risk situation was constructive. The company accepted PCS’s voluntary approach to:-
PCS have discussed the matter at length with GSS and made it clear that we do not accept the need to resort to compulsory redundancy to reduce the threat to jobs.
The transfer of 20 jobs to SIS as a result of the “Carve Out” will still go ahead as planned on 1st July. Discussions are scheduled to take place with SIS management to deal with the TUPE transfer of these members.
PCS have received indications from some members that they would consider a voluntary application for redundancy. PCS expects Siemens to accommodate these requests to deliver suitable outcomes for all our members’.
This decision is wholly a commercial one and illustrates the callous nature of the private sector where profit and shareholders will always be put before working people and their families and where loyalty and hard work count for little against the profit motive.
PCS is determined as ever to do all we can to protect all of the affected group from this major threat to themselves and their families.
