26 November is DVLA No Pay Day

It is the day that staff in DVLA effectively receive their last pay of the year.

The pay gap (on average 10%) between the agency and the rest of DfT is equivalent to staff in other parts of the department being paid all year round while staff in DVLA work for free after the 26 November.

No Pay Day 2009 is part of a wider campaign for equal pay across the whole of the Department for Transport. We are asking members, starting on No Pay Day, to under take one or more of the actions below.

Starting on No Pay Day

You could:

• If you are an EO in DVLA and haven't done so already, register your email pay claim using this online form;
   
• Write to your MP.  Using your home e-mail address, log onto this site and use this online facility which will automatically identify your local MP and e-mail details.
   
• Write to your local newspaper. Using your home e-mail address, log onto this site and download either our template letter for members in DVLA Swansea or our template letter for members outside DVLA Swansea.  Customise it as you want and send it to the letter’s section of your local paper;
   
• Write to the Chief Executive (you can use your work e-mail for this) asking him to justify the pay gap between you and others at the same grade in DfT. Some suggested questions are found here.
   
• Prominently display in your work space or on a Union bulletin board the No Pay Day material that the Union is distributing. [Contact us via mailbox.pcs@dft.gsi.gov.uk if you need more copies]
