DVLA belongs to the Department for Transport (DfT) group, which is a group within PCS specifically dedicated to Department for Transport issues.

Within this group the DVLA has a number of representatives from each of its 4 branches to ensure that DVLA members issues and opinions are heard by the group.

DVLA Section Executive Committee

The DVLA also has a Section Executive Committee (SEC) which is a subsidiary body of the DfT group set up to discuss DVLA specific issues.

The SEC meets 5 times a year and is responsible for

  • Organising members within the DVLA
  • Agreeing responses to proposals made by DVLA management
  • Agreeing strategy when negotiating national agreements
  • Co-ordinating DVLA wide campaigns and activities
  • Health and Safety at a national level
  • Equality issues at a national level
  • Reporting back to the DfT group any issues faced by members in the DVLA

DVLA branch executive committees

DVLA consists of 4 branches, Swansea, Northern, Midlands and Southern.

Branch executive committees (BEC’s) meet several times a year and are responsible for

  • Local organising
  • Equality issues
  • Consulting members on local and national DVLA issues
  • Ensuring all reps are adequately trained to handle personal cases
  • Supporting reps with personal cases
  • Ensuring all members have access to representation in personal cases
  • Negotiating local agreements
  • Reporting any issues to the Section Executive Committee
  • Health and Safety

positions for branch representatives are elected each year and the results are announced at each branches Annual General Meeting (AGM). The AGM is open to all members within that branch to attend and special leave will be considered for anyone wishing to do so. It is important that if you should wish to attend the AGM that you ask your line manager for permission beforehand.

Within each of these committees there are also specialist reps with responsibilities including Union Learning, Health and Safety, young members issues and equality and diversity.

PCS is always interested to hear from members who would like to become more active in the union be it as a rep, distributor, activist or committee member. Please speak to your local rep if you are interested in becoming more involved with your union.
