The latest bulletin for members in DWP and CMEC.

Improvements gained in our Contact Centre Campaign

The DWP Group Executive Committee met yesterday to hear details of the package of improvements negotiated so far in an attempt to settle the dispute over the 14 sites transforming into Contact Centres. Negotiations so far have now secured choices for the members threatened with compulsory transfer and job security for the Band A staff whose jobs were threatened by this move. Some initial welcome improvements have been made to the working conditions in the contact centres but talks are continuing to get much more. Full details will be published to all members as soon as possible. None of these improvements would have been possible without the firm stand PCS members were prepared to take.

CSCS Strike – All Out on March 8th and 9th

Lobbying the Government

PCS members across the civil service lobbied their MPs in a very successful lobby on Wednesday over the government’s disgraceful CSCS proposals. Hardworking civil servants came to tell their MPs that far from being about losing gold plated pay outs this is about us losing our livelihoods and every shred of job security – something we can ill afford – especially when most of us don’t earn in year what some MPs have claimed in toilet seats and duck houses.

Starting to listen

As the general election looms many MPs are starting to listen. Over 150 MPs have signed our Parliamentary motion to stop the CSCS cuts so far. Further lobbying of MPs will take place in their constituencies this weekend. If you have not written to your MP follow this link to write today:

Make them listen on March 8th and 9th

It is now clear that our planned strike on March 8th and 9th will now definitely take place. It must go ahead to show the government how serious we are about defending our jobs. All of the feedback we have had from DWP, CMEC and the whole civil service tells us that this strike will be fantastically well supported. Most managers see how much they have to lose under these proposals and intend to join the strike too. The stronger the strike is the higher our chances of a successful result. Make sure you play your part by either staying at home on Monday and Tuesday or joining the picket line outside your office. There are rallies in many towns and cities see pcs.org.uk

Together we will win.

PCS fights to secure FTA jobs

PCS is making every effort to have all FTA staff made permanent. Their hard work has contributed so much to the success of the department in recent months. PCS believes that we need to maintain the current staffing levels in order to deal effectively with the continuing huge workloads – to lose staff now would seriously jeopardise our ability to keep meeting targets and serving the customer so effectively.

Striking for jobs

Some people have dishonestly suggested that FTA staff have no interest in striking over CSCS next week. PCS have convinced members up and down the country that this not true. Union members know that striking will not affect whether they are kept on or not. PCS has an excellent record of getting FTA staff made permanent. Only PCS is fighting in their corner.
Members know that sticking with the union will improve their chances of getting a permanent job. When they are made permanent their jobs would still be vulnerable if the CSCS proposals get in. We all need job security. We are all sticking together to win.
