Further Reporting of 30th November Action: 18 Jan 2012
Strike Day Reports still needed. Reply Required Support for the strike on 30th November was on a scale that no one in this country has ever experienced. Over two million public sector workers from 29 separate unions sent a clear message that we will defend our pensions and fight to stop, what in effect is, an extra tax being imposed upon us because of the bankers failures. Support for the action in DWP was magnificent.

DWP Group is aware that in some areas DWP management are planning to use DWP staff to take over the messengerial functions previously conducted by BBW messengers.

As reported in DWP/BB/180/11, DWP have announced their intention to take on 4,000 permanent staff into DWP Operations.
Update on Office Closures and Meaningful Consultation: 17 Jan 2012
In the light of DWP's decision to recruit additional staff PCS immediately demanded that management call a halt to their office closure programme and end the threat of compulsory redundancies by taking all members out of meaningful consultation.

Managers should not initiate dismissal action after long-term illness and rehabilitation into work: 13 Jan 2012
Return to work & unfair dismissal PCS raised concerns in 2010 that employees were being unfairly dismissed when they had returned to work from long term sickness absence and have had no further absences following their return. DWP agreed to issue advice to HR Managers and clarify Attendance Management Procedure to confirm that the purpose of long term sickness action is to get the employee back to work.
