Young members

PCS believes that young members have important role to play in the present and the future of our union. With endemic low pay and high-pressured working conditions often hitting younger workers the hardest, there has never been a more important time to be a union member and become more active.

There are over 6000 young members in the DWP, making up nearly 10% of the union membership within the department. Currently, there are over 30 Young Member Officers (YMOs) in branches, each regional committee has a YMO. The Group Executive Committee (GEC) is committed to building and supporting the work of young activists.

DWP group young members advisory committee

We have a Young Members Advisory Committee (YMAC), made up of young members from across the country, which meets quarterly to advise the GEC on matters affecting young members.

This webpage will be updated with news from the YMAC and will provide tools and advice for young members in the DWP.
