DWP/BB/075/09
The DWP Branch Young Members Officer job description was circulated to branches with DWP/BB/28/09. Enclosed with this briefing are copies of leaflets and posters to help you to promote and encourage young members to get involved as Branch Young Members Officers.
The role has been set out in clear terms to help to give more direction to the work of branch Young Members Officers (YMO) and to help branches to get more young members actively involved. Currently only 46 out of 115 DWP branches have a YMO recorded on commix.
The DWP Young Members Advisory Committee are asking every branch to do everything possible to fill the post of YMO. Branches should also make sure that all YMOs are recorded on commix by either recording the details on commix their selves or by providing details to the PCS Leeds office.
The Branch Young Members Officer (YMO) plays a key role in recruiting younger workers to the union and getting young members involved with union activity. This is an area of great importance to PCS, especially as the DWP workforce is becoming younger, particularly in call/contact centre work.
The Group Executive Committee is encouraging every region to hold a young members event this year. Dates are currently planned for Scotland and the East Midlands. The DWP Group Young Members Advisory Committee will give Regions full support in organising events and to branches wanting help or advice on how to get young members involved.
