DWP/GEC/416/09
Please find attached a report providing an evaluation of the DWP Young Members’ Training Event held in Manchester on 26th and 27th November 2009.
There are 3 recommendations for consideration by the Young Members’ Advisory Committee. They are :
1. To ensure that there are clear outcomes for this event, and given the high number of new activists that participated, I recommend that the YMAC put arrangements in place to regularly contact all of the 48 attendees and their branches, in order to offer support and record their progress in PCS.
2. The idea of a mentoring system was suggested by attendees to help young reps develop. I recommend that the YMAC work on guidance for branches and consider making a recommendation to the GEC.
3. As networking and meeting other young members were seen as some of the most useful parts of the course, I think it is important for young activists to be able to meet in each region to build support structures. I recommend that the YMAC advise and support regional committees in organising a meeting, following the agreement to fund by the GEC on 15th October 2009.
