Eastern region hardship fund

The PCS eastern regional committee set up a hardship fund in 2004 to support members suffering financial hardship as a result of losses incurred taking part in industrial action.

Some members were covered by branch or group hardship funds but many members in the East of England were left without support at the start of a period of industrial action. Therefore the eastern hardship fund was set up so that all members in the region could participate in industrial action without being forced into financial hardship as a result.

Thanks to the generosity of eastern members, through donations, the 100 Club and badge purchases, the regional committee has been able to assist many members to stand in solidarity during industrial action. The fund continues to slowly grow and is ready for future action.

Donating to the hardship fund

Cheques should be made out to 'PCS eastern hardship fund' and sent to the PCS eastern office.

You can make a regular donation by completing the standing order form in the panel on the right and sending to your bank. Alternatively you might want to join the 100 Club and have a chance of winning some money back! Find out about the 100 Club.

Applying to the hardship fund

In the first instance members should check with their branch and group secretaries to find out if the branch or group has a hardship fund. All groups except DWP should now have a fund.

If the branch or group does not have a fund then any member working in the eastern region can apply to our fund for up to the net amount lost during industrial action. Please download the form on the right and send to the PCS Eastern office with your payslip showing the industrial action deduction. Proof of hardship may be requested.

The regional committee officers meet after each industrial action to determine the amount of any awards. Their decision is final and is not subject to appeal. The majority of requests have been met in the past.

If you are experiencing general financial difficulties then you may be able to apply to the PCS benevolent fund or may want to join the credit union.
