Revised pay offer - ballot result

The result of the ballot of our members in English Heritage on the revised pay offer is:

  • 68% voted in favour to accept the revised offer
  • 32% voted to reject the revised offer

The PCS branch and its members in Engligh Heritage will continue to campaign against regional and spurious market related pay. Members will need to take responsibility for using the vote they're given because that indicates the strength of support the union has to determine its course of action.

Considering the emotive and important issues that needed to be voted on, the return was disappointing, but the vocalised support and feedback during the lead up to the various ballots very useful.

There are a few things to be finalised, for instance whether there are additional members eligible for the lump sum buy-out. Mike Hodgson, PCS Branch Chairperson and I are working on this at the moment.

Thank you to all of you who participated and supported our campaign. We now need to consolidate on all the gains achieved so as to hold our position of strength within EH.

What we achieved

During the campaign and negotiations with management with the support of members we managed to achieve:

  • improved means of communication with members
  • a greater number of PCS activists in EH
  • a vigorous and effective campaign
  • a big increase in membership in EH
  • a healthy debate
  • more money targeted at the lower paid
  • improved the levels of pay for visitor operations staff by introducing the third tier
  • more meaningful negotiation with management during re-opened negotiations
  • more effective management side, consisting of people with the authority to make decisions
  • the difficult task of mobilising staff to defend terms and conditions who work on sites and in offices right across the country
  • improved compensation for groups of members
