Equality forums

There are four PCS equality forums, which are organised by the Equality, Health and Safety department as follows:

  • National black members' forum
  • National disability forum
  • National health and safety forum
  • National women's forum

In addition there is a self-organising group who campaign on issues relating to lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgender people, known as Proud.

This group meets as the Proud steering committee in the same way that forums meet.

Each forum is made up of reps from:

  • The PCS national executive
  • PCS employer groups such as Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs, Department for Work and Pensions or Ministry of Defence
  • PCS national branches covering some employers, which are not departments and agencies
  • PCS occupational associations, such as the support and related grades.

Each forum meets at least three times a year and their function is to:

  • Advise the national executive on policy issues relating to their particular subject area
  • To exchange information on developments in negotiations and campaigns
  • To identify areas where additional guidance is needed for negotiators and local reps and to consider and develop national strategies to increase the involvement and participation of members in the union.

Each forum specifically targets and encourages participation of members from that specific group i.e. the black members' forum aims it's activities at black members of the union.

Each forum, with the exception of the national health & safety forum, organises an annual seminar for PCS members.

Members of each forum can be contacted via the Equality, Health and Safety department or in the equality contacts page in the members area of this website.
