Home Office attacks on staff intensify

PDR Moderation

At the very end of the reporting year managers have been asked to stigmatise the bottom 10% of staff, regardless of acceptable performance, in this ill considered arbitrary scheme.

Pay

A three year, imposed, below inflation pay deal, which will result in wages cuts in real terms.

Privatisation

Contestability threatens everyone's job in the UKBA. The pilot at Bedford LEO has resulted in morale collapsing and soaring sick rates as members are compelled to train contractors to do their jobs. Yet the Department insists that contestability must continue.

UKBA

The Department is ploughing ahead with the convergence of HMRC, BIA and UK Visas, changing members’ jobs with no substantive negotiation. Senior managers have said that Home Office staff will be moving to the HMRC model of consolidated pay and annualised hours. And that is before negotiations on terms and conditions have even started!

Weekend working

Members in Enforcement have been threatened with cuts in their take home pay of between £300 and £500 as the Department slash weekend working due to a budget overspend. Some members are facing the prospect of not being able to pay their mortgage, but the Department is unconcerned and won't even agree to central talks on the issue.

Cuts in allowances

Members working in at juxtaposed ports in France are facing similar cuts in their remuneration as the Department proposes to withdraw allowances that have been paid for years.

Anti-union

The Department has put forward proposals for Home Office staff to act as flying strike breakers in the event of a Prison Service strike.

They have also banned PCS from attending induction courses stating that they are not convince we share their vision of what a 21st Century organisation looks like. If this vision involves ignoring staff, cutting pay, privatising members’ jobs, weakening national security and seeking to undermine our fellow workers then the PCS is proud not to share this vision.

And if that’s not enough…

Inadequate footwear allowances have been imposed on uniformed staff without negotiation; the Department is trying to tear up a formal agreement on early starts…….what next?

Across the Home Office, members have had enough and are ready to fight back. PCS will be supporting them, and together we can win.
