Union learning in the Justice Sector
PCS's Justice Sector union learning network
PCS has established a justice sector union learning co-ordinators' network to implement the union learning agenda in this sector.
This comprises of key lay reps (usually the group/national branch union learning coordinator with responsibility for union learning in their bargaining area) and full-time officers (mostly regional learning service officers and union learning project staff).
Besides communicating and circulating information via e-mail and this website, the network also meets regularly. To date, the following justice areas are represented:
- Criminal Records Bureau
- Crown Prosecution Service
- Home Office
- Identity and Passport Service
- Independent Police Complaints Commission
- Metropolitan Police
- Ministry of Justice
- Office of Public Guardian
- Prison Service (or National Offender Management Service)
- Revenue and Customs Prosecution Office.
We would be interested in hearing from any represented and unrepresented justice sector bargaining areas who wish to be involved, our bargaining unit learning officer Laura Lloyd - laura@pcs.org.uk - would like to hear from you.
Aims of the network
Our aims are to:
- consider strategic matters and developments in union learning, and develop the
- learning agenda in the justice sector
- provide support and assistance to, and hear feedback from PCS union learning reps
- (ULRs) in the justice sector
- encourage groups and branches to find and develop ULRs
- assist with work on negotiating learning agreements
- input into the work of Skills for Justice, the sector skills council for this area.
