Black members network

A forum has been set up for black members in London & South East region (African, Asian, Caribbean, Chinese etc).

The forum gives black members the opportunity to meet outside of the workplace to discuss the work of the union, what the issues and priorities are for black members and to feed these into the organising strategy of the NEC and PCS itself.

The group is kept regularly up to date on issues and events through our email network group or by post for those who do not have access to email.

Terms of reference for the black members network steering group:

General

  • The steering group will meet quarterly with ad hoc meetings to be decided as required
  • Member of the steering group shall be drawn from the regional black members network
  • Observers are permitted to attend subject to a formal request to the chair / secretary and subject to funding
  • 12 members maximum
  • Agree to consult steering group members on the dates for future meetings

Our role

  • To consult & communicate what we are doing to the wider network
  • One lead co-ordinator of the network and a deputy
  • Liaise with the PCS equality department, regional committee and national black members forum so that we feed into wider union activities
  • Publicise our activities through articles in view, activate etc
  • Encourage network members to increase their participation in national campaigns.
  • Encourage non-members who are black to join the union.
  • Circulate relevant literature and union circulars to the network
  • Publicise the historical involvement of black workers in the trade union movement (through events and literature)
  • Regional office to keep the LSE pages on the website up to date with network activities.
  • Promote unity in terms of the discrimination we face.

Disabled members network

A forum that has been set up for disabled members in London and south east region.

The forum, once established will give disabled members the opportunity to meet outside of the workplace to discuss the work of the union, what the priorities are for members and to feed these into the organising strategy of the NEC and the union itself.

Young members' network

We have established a young members' network for PCS members aged 27 and under so you as the next generation of members can have a say about the future of our union.

PCS young members:

  • Recruit and organise fellow young workers
  • Listen to young workers' issues and develop campaigns to organise around these issues.
  • Raise the profile of PCS union with young workers and ensure the union is relevant to young workers
  • Develop policies written by and for young members
