You will, of course, be aware that we are rapidly heading toward a General Election. In addition to this a number of areas in the region will also be holding local elections.
The MYVC campaign has been running for the last four years and has been very successful and highly influential. The campaign itself has won awards from the TUC.
However the campaign this year will be much different from previous years as for the first time we will be seeking views/positions from potential constituent MPs (including those that are currently or could well be Government Ministers) who will be making direct decisions over members’ jobs, terms and conditions.
Whilst no date has been set for the General Election, candidates in the majority of constituencies have or are about to be selected. It is important that we make contact with these candidates as early as possible raising matters of concern from PCS members. It is therefore important Branch Committees appoint/elect a Branch MYVC Co-ordinator as soon as possible.
All MYVC Branch Co-ordinators will be given the opportunity of training for this role, including ideas (tools) to campaign over issues. Dates of training will be issued in the next few weeks.
Political campaigning does work; just one mere letter from me to all MPs in the Midlands has seen a further half dozen sign the Early Day Motion opposing the changes to CSCS.
If you wish to become your Branch MYVC Co-ordinator please email chrisp@pcs.org.uk.
