PCS raises pay with the permanent secretary

PCS met with the MoJ permanent secretary, Suma Chakrabharti, at the end of June and raised the problems of low pay, regional pay and the inequality of pay within the Ministry. The permanent secretary, who is the highest ranking civil servant in the MoJ, agreed to ensure that talks took place with PCS on all these issues over the summer.

Review of the Deal

Talks are due to start soon on the Review of the Deal. Discussions on Regional Pay and in particular aligning National and National+ pay ranges are top of the union’s agenda. However we also believe it is important to talk about comparisons with the Prison Service. Because of a successful PCS equal pay case within the Prison Service, rates of pay are considerable higher than those within the Deal for comparable jobs. We believe that this unfairness must end and have asked for talks on the issue.

Make a legal claim

However it these talks are not successful we are intending to legally challenge this inequality; members are currently lodging equal pay claims with the union through our website. The process is simple and takes less than 10 minutes. We intend to submit equal pay cases at the end of August, so hurry up and lodge your claim with PCS.
