Summer schedule for workplace meetings

Preparations are being finalised to hold workplace meetings in all workplaces in MoJ HQ, Tribunals Service and HMCS. MoJ management has agreed to a 1 hour meeting in each workplace so that the union can update members about the ballot on the new civil service jobs and privatisation agreements and update members on pay and the review of the Deal. In March, we reached an important national agreement with the government which provides our members with improved protection from compulsory redundancy in the civil service and related non-departmental public bodies .

Vote 'yes' for job security

We are urging you to vote ‘yes’ to the new agreement because:

  • Any member declared ‘surplus’ by their department, agency or body who wishes to remain in employment should be made the offer of an alternative job
  • Staff declared ‘surplus’ must be given priority and exclusive consideration in relation to vacancies elsewhere in the civil service.
  • In cases of outsourcing, attempts must be made to avoid transferring staff to a private employer who intends to make them compulsorily redundant. Where staff are to be transferred to a private employer consideration will be given to including conditions on job security in the contract.

If members vote ‘yes’, the agreement will be closely and jointly monitored by PCS and government ministers to ensure it is fully and properly implemented in every workplace.

By standing together and campaigning hard PCS has shown we can defend our members. We successfully defended our pension rights. Now we have reached an agreement on job security we think deserves your full support.

We are continuing to campaign on pay

The focus of the campaign will now shift to pay. Within the MoJ and across Government civil servants will get below inflation pay increases in 2008. PCS is committed to fighting for inflation proofing pay increases, to keep pay up with the cost of living.
