Annex M - Mandating meeting calling circular

This is sample text you could use for a circular promoting a branch mandating meeting.

The mandating meeting of the branch will be held on:

Tuesday 7th May at 3.00pm in the Churchill conference room

The purpose of the meeting is to advise the branch delegates on the motions that will be debated shortly at the MOD group and main Conferences, and the elections that will be held at those conferences. This is an important meeting because it is the opportunity for members to have a direct influence on the union’s policy. Don’t sit and groan, come along and moan!

The motions are set out in the agendas for the conferences which are being circulated and can also be found on the main conference and MOD group part of the PCS website. If you have a copy of these agendas then please bring them with you to the meeting.

The BEC have looked at the agendas and in particular would like your advice on the following motions:

Main conference:

  • Pay strategy: motions 1 - 15
  • Affiliations: motions 68 - 74

Group conference:

  • Pay and bonuses: Motions 1 - 17
  • Group Organisation: Motions 36 - 40

Elections to TUC etc

If members have any other motions that they would like to discuss then it would be helpful to let the branch secretary know on Westham (94 21) 2601, but motions can be raised at the meeting.

Refreshments. To be sure of numbers we would ask all members to complete and return the tear off slip at the foot of this newsletter by Friday 1 May.

Facility time. Under the facility time agreement you are allowed time off to attend this meeting as well as reasonable travelling time where necessary. We are writing to the heads of establishment for agreement.

Visitors and transport. Members attending the meeting from other sites must give their details to the secretary so that the entrance gate can be warned. Members from other sites are asked to club together, and we ask local representatives to co-ordinate transport arrangements from their site. Members providing their cars can claim mileage at union rates from the branch. Any member in difficulties over transport should contact the branch secretary (Westham (94 21) 2601.
