It has finally been accepted that the wording, to which the unions object, had not been properly consulted and therefore is not officially part of the PRG on working patterns. As a result MGS headquarters at Wethersfield have today issued an instruction to their regional managers that this wording is not to be used. Formal consultation will now have to be conducted. Until that has been conducted managers should now only be seeking volunteers to move shift and if none are forthcoming then the duty is not covered and customer tasks may fall.
The wording referred to reads “If you are an MGS shift worker it may become necessary to alter your rostered shift for operational reasons. A minimum of 48 hours notice must given. Should you be required to work on a rostered rest day, an alternative rest day will be given”.
In order to give the MGS JCC team a clear mandate on this issue in forthcoming dialogue and consultation, all MGS PCS members are urged to send their views on the changing of shifts to one of the JCC contacts below.
