Labour, Conservative and Liberal Democrat plans for defence

26 October 2009

All three mainstream political parties have in recent weeks attacked the work done by MoD civil servants.

Our union believes these politicians are misguided and we wish to put the record straight on behalf of our members. Therefore Chris Dando, MoD group president has written in the attached letters to the defence spokesperson for the Labour, Conservative and Liberal Democrat parties.

We wish to discuss what the defence priorities will be for whichichever party is in government following next year's general election and how we get the best possible outcomes for defence and value for money from the defence budget.

The letters explain how our members are concerned and upset about the reverse auction of MOD civilian jobs that is developing between the parties in the media and how members are dismayed that their jobs, lives and communities are being threatened by all of these political parties and a perceived lack of support from their employer.

If and when we get a response or hold a meeting with these politicians, we will issue full details of the response(s) or meeting(s) to members.
