Black members, don't miss out

A consultation exercise for MOD?s black members is about to be launched.

To be included, you must have recorded your ethnic origin on the PCS membership system, commix and fall within the definition below. All MOD black members who are already registered on commix will automatically be consulted.

Our union is asking black members in MOD to identify and prioritise the key concerns affecting you at work.

We want to ensure that the issues that are closest to your heart are taken forward in our local and national negotiations, campaigns and objectives.

If you are a black member in MOD but have not registered you ethnic origin on the PCS membership system you will miss out on having your say.

Anyone registering after the 3 of July 2009 who meets the criteria and who wishes to take part should e mail pamwai@pcs.org.uk subject line BME COMMIX, and provide your name and membership number. Consultation closes on the 23 of July.

Definition

PCS uses the term “black” in the political context to encompass members of Asian, African, Chinese, Caribbean, Arabic etc heritage who are generally underrepresented in the unions decision making structures. PCs is committed to equal opportunities and seeks to support “black” members with a view to encouraging greater participation and trying to ensure that key information about equality seminars, training opportunities, consultations, information pertaining to employment rights etc, is disseminated to “black” members.
