Security Services Group (SSG) harmonisation

Management are looking at the terms of employment for non-industrial staff working within SSG, with the stated aim of bringing them in line with other MoD staff. A similar exercise has recently been concluded for industrial skill zone staff within SSG.

There are four areas being examined under harmonisation:

  1. Bring overtime rates into line with other MoD staff
  2. Deconsolidate London weighting and pay back at the outer London rate of £1,200 per annum
  3. Increase the hours of regional staff to 37/42 in line with other MoD staff.
  4. Maintain travel & subsistence terms that differ from those of other MoD staff.

Some of the initial proposals are beneficial to staff, some are detrimental, whilst others seem to be contrary to the concept of harmonisation. Additionally, full- and part-time staff are affected differently by these proposals.

PCS are engaged with this study, and whilst content with the principle of harmonisation are committed to a policy of no detriment to existing members within SSG. Once we have received a response to our initial comments, a further briefing will be issued to keep you apprised of developments.

In the meantime, do not hesitate to contact John Russell at john.russell@hd.de.mod.uk or by phone on 01904 754646 if you have comments or questions on the proposals.
