The new Coalition defence secretary, Dr Liam Fox has now made several speeches regarding the future of our department. In his latest speech, made on Friday 13 August to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, he re-emphasised that the Coalitions financial targets are more important than a fit for purpose Ministry of Defence.5 Aug 2010
Our union has now received the final consultation document on the proposals to centralise the Defence estates, operations housing (DE-Ops. Housing) finance team with DE-Ops. housing headquarters (HQ). DE-Ops. housing HQ is due to relocate from RAF Brampton to RAF Wyton by 2013, but it is intended that this centralisation of the finance function will occur by March 2011.19 Jul 2010

Our union was recently successful in court regarding the judicial review on the civil service compensation scheme. We now look forward to negotiations restarting on this. However it seems the Ministry of Defence, and in particular the Defence Equipment and Support area are intent on ending up back in court because of the mobility clause.
