As we approach the festive period, there has been little to cheer for the members in the Defence Sector group (DSg). However as members leave to enjoy some well-deserved rest, we are delighted to be able to announce a breakthrough in our campaign to save civilian jobs.

The action on 30 June was at that point the best ever supported by PCS MoD members. Today, we have eclipsed that and by some margin. From myself as group secretary, can I thank every single member of our group who took action today.

As we start the pantomime season, it seemed appropriate to title this circular in pantomime style. Over the last few days and weeks, we have seen an increasingly desperate government come up with some ludicrous and farcical statements about public sector pensions and the November 30 action. We have answered many of these in this circular.

The 30 June industrial action was the best supported action ever taken by PCS members. At that time, we were joined by three other unions holding national strikes over pensions, the Association of Teachers and Lecturers, the National Union of Teachers and the University and College Union.
