Prior to the 2010 general election, the Conservative party line was that they believed we needed 25,000 less civilians in the Ministry of Defence. Once they had formed a coalition government, they hastily conducted the Strategic Defence and Security Review (SDSR), which reported in October 2010 and not surprisingly announced 25,000 civilian job losses alongside 17,000 military job cuts. - Minister announces MoD to learn nothing from DTR and to press towards single site for DTT

Yesterday, the Permanent Secretary wrote to Ministry of Defence staff regarding public sector pensions. Many of the claims made in that e-mail are partial, misleading or just plain wrong. - MoD strike action 30 June 2011
