MGS dispute - joint statement

PCS and Unite negotiators met with Richard Hatfield, MDPGA owner and MoD personnel director, to discuss the current dispute in the MGS on the proposed shiftworking allowance trial.

The meeting, on Thursday 26 June 2008, agreed the following statement:

Officials from Unite and PCS met yesterday with the MoD personnel director, Richard Hatfield, to discuss the recent consultation document, ‘Trial of alternative shift patterns’. The talks were very constructive.

The personnel director has agreed that he will reflect on the points made by the unions including some alternative options for the way forward. He agreed that he would provide a more formal response by the end of next week.

As soon as we receive this response we will issue it on this website and to all branches.

Please note that separately it has been agreed that the implementation of the trial has been put back to 1 August 2008.

While we are hopeful of a successful outcome to the talks we are not, at this stage, suspending our ballot.
