Unions to recommend improved offer to settle BAA dispute

17 August 2010

PCS will recommend to its members an improved offer from BAA to settle a potentially damaging dispute over pay.

Talks at the government’s conciliation service Acas between the airport operator and PCS, Unite and Prospect unions, ended last night with a revised pay offer for 2010, which the three unions will put to their respective members in a ballot with a recommendation to accept.

The details of the new offer are:

  • A 2% increase on basic pay and allowances effective from 1 January 2010
  • No alteration to the arrangements for pay during sick absence
  • A bonus payment this year of at least £500, £200 of which will be paid in September and the rest paid next March
  • Bonuses for 2011 to be based on a sliding scale of between £500 and £900 depending on individual airport performance
  • Discussions to take place at each airport on targets for bonuses for 2012 onwards

PCS negotiations officer Jeremy Gautrey said: "The new offer represents real progress by BAA and the unions to reach an agreement.

"We would like to thank the Acas staff for their professionalism and assistance in resolving what could have been a very damaging dispute."
