Tribunal for PCS union rep begins

As chair of the Hastings Child Support Agency (CSA) branch of the Public and Commercial Services union, Eddie has been instrumental in PCS’s ongoing fight to protect members’ terms and conditions as the CSA becomes the Child Maintenance and Enforcement Commission.
We have argued that the allegations against him all relate to his trade union activities, such as attending meetings to represent members individually and collectively, including meetings where hundreds of jobs could have been at risk.
The support for Eddie from the public and colleagues has been overwhelming.
Two well attended rallies have been held in Hastings, and delegates at PCS’s annual conference last month confirmed he has the union’s full backing.
Eddie’s tribunal in Ashford, Kent, is scheduled to last two weeks.
It is the latest in a series of cases where trade unionists have been victimised for their union activities, including Unison rep Karen Reissmann who spoke out about the privatisation of health services.
PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka said:
“Union reps who stand up for their colleagues and service users are the frontline defence of the public services we all rely on.
"Management who will dismiss a dedicated rep like Eddie, while tolerating an active fascist in the same workplace have woefully distorted values.”
