8 March 2010
Members voted during November for a campaign of action short of a strike, and strike action. Some 460 out of 914 members voted, with 92% supporting action short of a strike, and 78% supporting strike action.
Since the action on 22 January, PCS and management have met on two occasions, with the help of ACAS, in an attempt to resolve the dispute. There has not been sufficient movement from management to settle the dispute, and with the full backing of the union’s national disputes committee, and the EDS GEC, the strike committee have called further action in an attempt to win improvements.
Industrial action – including both strike action and action short of a strike - by members outside the sites where the ballot has taken place would be unlawful, and therefore we are advising you that you should work normally on the 8 & 9 March.
If you are instructed to anything that appears to be aimed at undermining the action, we would ask you to contact your local representative, or PCS headquarters on 020 7801 2667.
The industrial action continues to attract more new members in the affected branches – many former EDS employees are deeply unhappy at the way they are being treated by the new employers.
We are asking you to support your colleagues and fellow PCS members in the north east and north west.
