'Shameful' to bury bad news on last day of parliament

17 December 2015

Commenting on the raft of government announcements made today PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka said:

"For a government that claims to champion transparency, it is shameful that ministers have waited until the last day of parliament to make these announcements and try to bury bad news."

On the increase in costs to court users, he said:

"We do not believe court users should be charged and we want these fees to be scrapped, not increased. Access to justice should not just be for those who can afford it, it is a basic principle that the government should be prepared to fund."

And on cutting funding for solar panels, he said:

"The 'greenest government ever' lie was exposed years ago. So this is unsurprising but no less abhorrent, coming so soon after the floods showed again how important it is that we tackle climate change."
