'Total hypocrisy' to cut health department jobs

5 February 2016

Commenting on news today the Department of Health plans to cut a third of its workforce, Public and Commercial Services union general secretary Mark Serwotka said:

"It is total hypocrisy for the Tories to claim they are protecting spending on health while cutting a third of the workforce of the department that runs and supports the health service.

"Stripping hundreds of posts from the Department for Health will mean many very experienced and committed staff who provide essential support to our NHS losing their jobs."

The announcement that 600 jobs could go from the DoH by April 2017 comes as ministers confirm plans to further cut civil service redundancy pay, despite previously claiming recent changes were "affordable and sustainable".
