'Right and inevitable' we will defend jobs and pensions

26 June 2010

Responding to former Labour MEP Richard Balfe's comments reported in today's Telegraph, PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka said:

"We don't seek a confrontation, but the Tories don't appear to be prepared to listen.

"With no democratic mandate, the coalition has just produced possibly the most regressive budget in living memory, where it intends to make low paid and vulnerable people pay for the economic crisis.

"We believe there is an alternative to these spending cuts but, if we have to, it's right and inevitable that we will stand up for the jobs and pensions of public servants, as well as the essential services they provide to the public."
