The inquest is scheduled to run for 10 days and legal representation is expected to cost several thousand pounds.
Jay was attacked by a gang of racists on 25 January 1999 while out celebrating a well earned promotion. He died four days later.
His brother Michael launched the Justice for Jay Abatan campaign after the police failed to bring Jay’s killers to justice.
The family now hope that the coroner could unearth new facts about the case and highlight deficiencies in the criminal justice system so that no one else experiences the hidden obstacles that have so far denied justice to Jay.
Members are urged to continue supporting the campaign by making donations, holding branch, regional, community fundraising events, and buying Justice for Jay T-shirts.
Cheques should be made payable to ‘Justice For Jay Abatan Campaign’ and sent c/o Lorna Campbell, PCS, 160 Falcon Road, London, SW11 2LN. Order campaign postcards by contacting David on david.millar@pcs.org.uk
