Pride nationwide

16 September 2008

PCS members turned out across the country this summer to celebrate the lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans festival Pride. Cornwall's first ever Pride event took place over the August bank holiday weekend.

The parade had a theatrical theme with shades of the Pied Piper of Hamlin as people joined the parade as it snaked through the cobbled streets of Truro to the beat of drums and shrill whistles.

Victoria Gardens then became the back drop for stalls and an afternoon of musical entertainment. Many people visited the PCS stand and shared our concerns about cuts to public services.

This year’s Stoke Pride event and the six towns Love Music Hate Racism festivals were hailed as a great success by PCS members from the Midlands region.

Hanley town centre hosted the Pride festival where PCS members and partygoers were treated to music, fun and games in true Pride tradition. It was the first year the event had been held in the town centre and was very well attended.

PCS Proud hosted a stall where members could pick up freebies and collect information on our equality agenda, as well as enjoying music from soul sensation Angie Brown and 80’s pop icon Sonia.
