BNP not welcome here

2 July 2009

PCS activists joined students and anti-fascist campaigners in a protest outside the first council meeting of a newly-elected BNP member.

HMRC north west and central Lancashire branch members were among more than 100 protestors at County Hall in Preston.

The peaceful demonstration was a public showing of opposition against Sharon Wilkinson, who now represents the Padiham and Burnley West ward of Lancashire County Council for the BNP.

As well as speakers from Unite Against Fascism and the local students’ union, north west Make Your Vote Count co-ordinator Lavinia O'Conner addressed the crowd on behalf of PCS.

Branch chair Andy O’Donnell said: "It is important that we show BNP members that the vast majority of us do not want to see their divisive, discriminatory and racist policies in our communities.

"We sent a clear and early message that we will challenge them wherever they are, and we are not going away."
