Compensation scheme lobby success

8 March 2010

PCS activists from across the country descended on parliament yesterday (3 March) to demonstrate their anger at the government's proposals to cut their redundancy payments.

At a pre-lobby meeting they were addressed by John McDonnell MP, chair of the PCS parliamentary group, David Drew MP for Stroud and PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka. Both John and David wished activists in the room and across the country all the best for the strike on 8 & 9 March and Mark thanked both them and members of the parliamentary group for their work raising our members concerns about the compensation scheme in parliament.

Most of the members then went on to lobby their MPs while a drop-in briefing for all MPs was held. Over 50 MPs attended the drop-in briefing including current and past Ministers like Hazel Blears, Meg Munn and David Blunkett.

In total we managed to reach almost 60 MPs with our message that a negotiated settlement on the compensation scheme is possible and that our members are angry that the government is simply not listening to them.

Later that day Mark and full time official Peter Harris also addressed the Welsh Labour group of MPs outlining members’ concerns about the imposed changes to the compensation scheme.

If your MP isn’t below then arrange to lobby them this weekend in their constituency surgery.
