Register members for support

Reps are urged to make sure support grade members in their areas are registered as we relaunch our support and related grades section.

The section aims to protect and improve the conditions of our most vulnerable members, by offering:

  • A voice where it matters
  • Communications dedicated to support staff
  • Opportunities to participate in the democratic structures
  • A campaigning organisation taking up members’ concerns.

A conference is planned for late November 2008 and groups will be entitled to send delegates based on the number of registered support grades in the group. The draft timetable is:

  • 30 September 2008: Closing date for figures of registered support grades
  • 1 October 2008: Notice to groups of delegation entitlement
  • 3 October 2008: Request to groups for motions
  • 27 October 2008: Deadline for groups to make nominations for delegates, officers and executive committee
  • 3 November 2008: Deadline for motions to be submitted
  • 24 November 2008: Conference to take place in week commencing.

Many groups currently have very few support grades registered and this will result in them losing the opportunity to have delegates at the conference.
