Unions to remember Holocaust

11 December 2009

A charity is calling on trade unionists to mark a major anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.

Holocaust Memorial Day is held on 27 January each year and 2010 is 65 years since survivors at the camp were freed.

The Holocaust Memorial Day Trust is asking union branches to commemorate the day by hosting or helping to co-ordinate community events.

The charity says the day is particularly important because trade unionists were also targeted by the Nazis.

The trust provides a range of free resources, including campaign packs with ideas for holding events, and an online video narrated by Daniel Radcliffe.
