Everday we are filmed going to work, meeting friends and just minding our own business.
Supporters of CCTV say it deters crime, but the evidence to support this is questioned by many experts.
Does CCTV make you feel safer?
or
Are we living in a surveillance state where privacy is a thing of the past?
Have you say - debate the issue here in PCS comment.

cctv, there to protect property, nt interested in crime, interested in control and keep the people in a state of fear, lts an open prison, they tell us its to protect our freedom, but results in us loosin our freedoms, be happy slaves. lock up the real criminals, who stole from us, property is theft! remember our history! l

I think people do not like CCTV due to feeling like big brother is watching. But i know if ever i get mugged (or worse) i will be grateful that the assailant is caugth on CCTV. Afterall CCTV can now be used as evidence, right?

I dont mind being watched by cctv, if anyone finds it at all interesting! I think some people are just far to paranoid about it. It makes me feel safer and helps to provide convictions at court. I bet everyone who says they dont like CCTV, would change their minds if it helped secure a conviction, for a murder offence of burglary that affected them! No-one wants to watch people, they are there to help and protect us and often do deter people from doing wrong. In cases where follow up action on footage from CCTV has been carried out, the amount of offences in that area has decreased.

Most violent crime happens indoors. If the government insists that CCTV is a preventative measure in the fight against crime, it should be installing cameras in every house across the land. Unfortunately, it might take something like this before people realise how Draconian CCTV actually is.

How can it be justified that we need millions of cameras watching everything we do ? In many cases of crime the images are so grainy and out of focus that you cant tell who the person is. Does anyone know who actually watches all of the purported 4.5 million cameras and how many crimes they solve each year?
