Help when you need it most

For PCS members struggling to cope with a serious health condition or with an elderly parent or close relative who needs extra support, our dedicated welfare service, PCS Care, is a good place to turn.

Since its launch in 2006, PCS Care has provided emotional support, practical assistance and information on health conditions to hundreds of members and their families.

Care for all the family

Jacqueline Pitcher phoned the service after her mother’s hip operation. With both parents in their late 70s, Jacqueline was concerned how they would cope. “We contacted PCS Care when we knew mum was coming out of hospital,” explains Jacqueline. “She had received minimal physiotherapy so PCS Care allocated her a registered nurse, Angie Mitchell who immediately arranged a home visit by a local physio. An assessment was made and five therapy sessions provided free of charge.”

“We have already helped many people with conditions such as cancer, heart problems, strokes and MS.” Angie Mitchell, registered nurse

“I really don’t know how dad and I would have coped without this help and reassurance. To be truthful, I think we would have run for the hills!”

Problems like Jacqueline’s are surprisingly common, says Angie: “We see lots of orthopedic cases, often involving the parents of a PCS member who are slowing down in later life.  Equally, members themselves are benefiting from the service. We have already helped many people with conditions such as cancer, heart problems, strokes and MS.”
